Powder Coating, the fastest growing finishing technology in North America, is the method of applying a decorative, protective finish to almost any type of metal; it’s commonly used both by commercial and residential customers. The powder used in the coating process is a mixture of finely ground particles, mainly resin and pigment, which is sprayed onto the surface of the metal for coating. The charged powder particles adhere to the electrically grounded surfaces until the powder is heated and fused into a smooth coating in the curing oven. The final product is cohesive and durable while maintaining a high quality as well as an aesthetically pleasing look.
1. Cost
The air extraction in a powder spray booth is a lot less than for solvent based paints. Great news if you’re looking for economies in ventilation and the consequential heating of work areas. As less warm air has to be replaced in workshops, less dust is attracted and there is less air-draught for the operators to contend with.
2. Durability
Powder Coating offers all customers, commercial and residential alike, one of the most economical, longest lasting, and most color-durable quality finishes in the market today. Powder coated surfaces are more resistant to chipping, scratching, fading, and wearing than other finishes, allowing a brightness and vibrancy that lasts over an extended period of time.
3. Quicker Turnaround
Powder processing times are generally shorter than those used for wet stoving paints since, as there is no solvent, no flash off period is required. Instead, the powder coated articles can pass directly into the oven. This gives substantial saving in space and time.
4. Cleaner
Applying powder is much cleaner than applying wet paint. A spray booth can be cleaned down quickly and easily using a rubber squeegee whilst the normal air extraction in the booth is operating. Brushes or an air hose should not be used for this purpose. Any spillages of powder outside the booth can be removed with an industrial vacuum cleaner which is fitted with an air-driven or dust-tight motor.
5. Environmentally Sustainable
Powder Coating is extremely environmentally friendly. Liquid finishes contain solvents with pollutants known as volatile organic compounds (VOC’s), powder coating does not, releasing no VOC’s into the air.
Combined with all of the above benefits, powder coating makes your purchase worthwhile: lasting longer while reducing environmental impact.
